Cold laser therapy is a service provided by Rocky Gorge, and is utilized in many different ways to benefit your pet. Some include muscle regeneration, wound healing, joint healing, and the control of acute and chronic pain. It is frequently used as a post-operative procedure, but can have its place in emergency and outpatient areas.
Laser (light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation) therapy involves a process called photobiomodulation. During this process, light penetrates the tissue and stimulates the mitochondria of each cell. This then increases blood supply to the area, which promotes healing, cell regeneration, and the decrease of pain and inflammation. In certain cases, you may be able to treat once, but in others one may need to treat a couple of times.
Although most research for the benefits come primarily from human studies, the use of laser therapy in small animal patients has been on the rise over the last several years, and information is becoming more and more available about its different uses and benefits.
