        A to Z Cat Care

Always have fresh drinking water available for your kitten or cat.

Brush your cats hair to remove excess hair and help prevent hairballs.

Clean your cats litter box. Scoop it out daily.

Declawing involves complete removal of the nail, and the last joint of the toe on the front feet. Teaching your cat how to use a scratching post and regular clippings are an alternative to declawing.

Euthanasia means having your veterinarian put your suffering ill pet to sleep before he/she would die naturally. Although it is sad and emotionally painful for you, it is quick and painless for your pet. When your cat is terminally ill and suffering, putting him/her to sleep is part of being a responsible pet owner.

Feline Leukemia, Distemper, Viral Rhinotracheitis (FVR), and Calici Virus are common illness that effect cats. If your cat is sick, contact your vet.

Gingivitis is inflammation of the gums. Check your cat to see if there is redness along the gum line.  Brown spots on the teeth indicate tartar. Brush your cat's teeth with a special cat toothpaste to prevent tooth decay and infections.

Hairballs result from cats licking and then swallowing their hair. Their hair is not digestible, so it just sits in the stomach, until its a mass of hair, mucous and digestive acids. The best way to prevent hairballs is to brush your cat regularly and feed them new special diets.

Intestinal worms can be prevented by regular worming.

Jealousy is common in cats when you bring a new kitten home or even a new baby.  Make sure you give your cat lots of love and attention during this time.

Kittens should not be taken from their mother until they are seven to eight weeks old.

Litterboxes should be scooped out daily.

Mites, fleas, and ticks all can cause health problems in your cat..

Neutering male cats helps prevents unwanted litters and reduces the number of cats that are put to sleep because they don't have a home.  During the procedure, the cat is put under general anesthesia, and the testicles are removed from two small incisions in the scrotum.

Older cats may become seriously ill with cancer, arthritis, liver and kidney disease, and thyroid disorders. Know what to do to prevent your pet from suffering.

Pet them, play with them, hug them and love them and they'll purr...purr....purr.

Questions-When you go to the veterinarian make a list of any questions that you may have.

Ringworm is a fungal infection of the skin that may cause itching and hair loss in your cat's coat.

Spaying involves removing the uterus and ovaries of a female cat. Spaying your cat helps prevent accidental pregnancies and prevention of uterine and breast diseases.

Transport your cat in a cat carrier when going to the veterinarian.

Urinary Disorders-Cats with urinary disorders  have special dietary needs.

Vaccinations are imperative to your cat's good health. Click on the needle to see our recommend vaccination schedule for cats.
